Pashmina, is derived from the word “Pash” which means inside. Pashmina is the best cashmere wool in the world. It comes from the Himalyan mountain goat "Carpa Hircus". This goat lives in the Himalayas at an altitude of 12,000 – 14,000 ft. where the temperature goes below -40 degrees centigrade. These goats have little nutrition to grow thick hair, and the thin hair they have is called Pashmina, which is thinner than a human hair.
The soft wool is hand spun into thin and even pashmina yarn. The yarn is then hand woven into loom, which has cotton, silk and pashmina warp. But presently the hand spun pashmina wool yarn has been replaced by imported fine machine spun yarn.
