Metal craft is one of the major handicrafts of Nepal.
All metal products are made by hand using traditional methods that have been passed
on from generation to generation.
The artisans follow the “lost wax method “in making metal products. The first step in this method is to make a wax model of the replica of the finished product. The wax model is then coated with a mixture of rice fiber and clay. It is then left to dry and harden in the sun. After three coats of this mixture are applied, the model is placed over a charcoal fire to melt the wax. Then melted metal is poured into each mould and allowed to set. Then the clay is washed with water.
After the metal product is made this way, artisans spend hours in polishing and adding other finishing details.
